But one works and the other doesn't?  Then I bet all my programming
experience that there is a relevant difference.  :-)

Probably, but then we have to design fixes.
It seems easier to address this one, than to open the can of worms
it usually means upgrading the autotools.

I will upgrade autotools for the next major release, but not for
4.2.2.
