Things are far worse than you've mentioned, and README is not the worst
example of lack of detail in this respect.  Take INSTALL, or ChangeLog,
or AUTHORS.  They mention absolutely *nothing* about the GMP license.

Terrible, truly terrible.  I understand that you're confused!
