Sorry, my answer is non-sense.

If this little program crashes GMP for such plain input, then your GMP
was not properly compiled.  We perform tests on many systems, surely
including powerpc.

You never mentioned which compiler (version) you used.  I think I
adviced you about compiler problems in my first reply, and changing to
an official GCC release should help.
