Maybe it's in the way you implemented it.
How did you code it?
I tested on AthlonXP 1800+ and it took something in the milliseconds, and 
this was with mpz_pow_ui.  I guess that it would even be faster with 
mpz_mul_2exp ( ex: mpz_mul_2exp(Result,One,300000) ).
