Building from repo generates an error message and fails.

Niels,
Thanks for responding.
I have built from the "latest" snapshot without problems... from https://gmplib.org/download/snapshot/gmp-next/gmp-6.3.0-20250919151842.tar.zst.
I decided to abandon my local clone of the repo and re-clone. I'm seeing relatively lots of networking errors (Comcast is usually quite stable)... the problem looks similar to a network that's trying to load balance but one of the networks is unstable. Sigh...
abort: HTTP request error (incomplete response)
(this may be an intermittent network failure; if the error persists, consider contacting the network or ser
ver operator)
I'm running "hg clone https://gmplib.org/repo/gmp/ gmp" and seeing the above error msgs.
I think you have isolated the problem area and I'm attepmting to prove this by building a fresh clone without bootstrap or other auto* or aclocal commands. I'll report back when I do this (i.e., if the network will let me... sigh).
Anyway,
Thanks for your help.
Best rgards,
George...

I really have no clue. Maybe try building a snapshot instead?
https://gmplib.org/download/snapshot/ I think that should let you build
with plain configure + make, no bootstraping of autoconf-related files.
