If you read my earlier messages you will see that I did try that and that
it failed in exactly the same way.  I am not trying to get the GMP
maintainers to do anything which is impossible (unless you count trying to
get Apple to fix bugs -- something which is impossible for me but should be
possible for a project of the stature of GMP).

If you read my latest message you will see that the problem does indeed
seem to be an Apple bug, and that I have provided a temporary workaround.
