Incorrect build under Mac OS X G5 (configure bug?)

Could you try to locate what the critical difference between 2.59 and
2.60 that solves this?

I do not dare to upgrade from 2.59 for GMP 4.2.2, from experience
upgrading autoconf breaks things.  Instead, I'd like to extract the
relevant change, and put it in our (already patched) autoconf.
