  No argument.  But before I dig too much further into

  a gmp bug ... a gcc bug ... an OS bug.

I don't know how anybody could tell where the bug might be
without investigate, i.e., debug it.

  would like to either get the bug confirmed or find a sparc
  system on which the problem does NOT occur.

As far as I can tell, nobody on this list has been able to
reproduce the problem.
