Yes.  I have been encountering this over the last three months of trying
to build every released GCC starting with 4.1.2 :-)

It's not that, sadly.  I wish it was :-)

I have in fact, as an aside, built GCC 4.5.4 successfully on MIPS32,
using the same GMP version.
