It is not really very likely that you get a stack overflow when not
allocating on the stack.

Make sure you link to the right library, not one that comes with
the system.

In general, following the instructions for how to report bugs will
help us to help you.  You omit much of the requested information,
leaving us with guesswork as our only option.
