Can't create GMP perl module

Hi there,
I am so sorry if this is an obvious question, but I've run out of ideas and
I can't seem to create a perl module from the GMP-4.1.2 package I
downloaded. I ran through the steps for creating and installing the library
(./configure, make, make check, make install) and everything seemed to work
great (using MinGW - my OS is Win2000), but when I tried to create the
module using makefile.pl (included in the demos/perl dir), I still get the
error 'no library found for -lgmp'. Did I install the library wrong or am I
missing a step in creating the module?? I set my environment vars to
include the .libs dir, as well as changed config.pm to include the .libs dir
in its libpth on the off chance that might help, but needless to say, I had
no luck.
Any hints would be extremely appreciated, and I seriously apologize if the
answer is in the manual some place that I can't find.
