  Yep.  I only mean bad gas plus gcc tickling the problem could be
  rejected.  Just need a good way to say if gcc is or isn't going to
  tickle it.
  
Test case:

int  gv;
int
foo (void)
{
  return gv;
}

Some sort of binary grep could identify the problem situation?
