on our ancient alpha under OSF1, it seems to work well - no difference
to gmp-4.1.2.
>From mpfr.info, it looks like you took basically the mpfr-2.0.1 in
gmp-4.1.2? Would it be feasable to switch to mpfr-2.0.3, or is this
what happened effectively by applying patches?
