What about more recent versions of gcc?

I'd suggest investigating these two failures first. Things to try (in
any convenient order):

1. Figure out which function crashes, and on which inputs. Using a
   debugger, or additional printouts.

2. Recompile with ./configure --enable-assert && make clean && make

3. Similarly, recompile with --enable-alloca=debug.
