Upgrading from 5.7 to 12.3 opens up a whole host of potential release-
engineering issues, presuming the latter even runs on this system
without a slew of additional updates. (This machine is used to produce
customer builds.)

I'm trying to build GCC, because I need to do GCC builds (but vendor-
compiler builds are needed as well).
