Having problems with installation

I want to install GFortran, and some of the libraries necessary for its 
installation is GMP, I downloaded the binary files (gmp-5.0.4.tar.bz2), 
and one I tried to install it (/. configure) I got this error message:

'checking for struct pst_processor.psp_iticksperclktick... no
checking for suitable m4... configure: error: No usable m4 in $PATH or 
/usr/5bin (see config.log for reasons).'

Do you have any idea on what the problem may be?

I'd appreciate any information.
