./config fail with missing file error

Trying to install GMP  5.0.2 downloaded from http://gmplib.org/,
./config fails with ""no version of add found in path: x86/k7/mmx
x86/k7 x86 generic". I can't argue -- there's no x86 folder anywhere
in the MPC distribution I got.

The installation help tells me to read  the full instructions using
info -f doc/gmp.info if ./config fails, but there's no file gmp.info
in the distro I got either.
