When I did the test (see MPFR mailing-list), it was on my Mac OS X
machine:

tst(10752) malloc: *** vm_allocate(size=2511523840) failed (error code=3)
tst(10752) malloc: *** error: can't allocate region
tst(10752) malloc: *** set a breakpoint in szone_error to debug
GNU MP: Cannot allocate memory (size=2511520740)

IMHO, it's unlikely to have a similar bug both in glibc and in
the Mac OS X libc.
