64bit on mac os x 10.6

Are you referring to:

  • Gcc 4.3.2 miscompiles GMP on 64-bit machines.

I saw this, but was unsure regarding the mac which only has gcc-4.2.1
available. 

I couldn't find anyting that directly said 64bit was unsupported on
the mac.  Is this the case?
