Strange behavior of mpf_inp_str

Do you follow the install instructions in the manual?  Does your system
correctly locate installed header files and libraries?

It is possible that you have a broken libgmp.{a,so} someehere that you
linker finds.

But this is just feeble guesswork.  If you provide every detail we ask
for in the manual's section on how to report bugs, then we might get an
inkling on what goes wrong.

(The GMP main development machine is a i7.  There is no such thing as a
processor problem that somehow could be triggered independent on what
compiler generated the code.)
