I found a manpage for 'systemsetup' with arguments - 
getkernelbootarchitecturesetting and -setkernelbootarchitecture to get  
and set kernel 32-/64-bit booting, by altering com.apple.Boot.plist  
in /Library/Preferences/SystemConfiguration. Reference 20 on the link  
said that third parties had made programs to manipulate this, but that  
seems to not be needed, then.
