In your gmp.info document, under "Known Build Problems", section MacOS  
X, it would be clearer if you wrote ('configure --disable-shared')  
instead of just ('--disable-shared')

In any case, whether or not I use "configure --disable-shared" before  
running "make", I get the same error on "make check":
