The signal(3) man page is not the standard.
So, if I understand, GMP isn't meant to be portable (since you don't
want to support systems that have their own features, like Mac OS X).
Exactly right. GMP is portable in a very restricted meaning of the
word. It is meant to run only on sensible Unix-like systems. It does
not run on bricks, some Macs, or toasters. But it does run without a
hitch on the G3, G4, and G5 Macs here, as it turns out.
