Hello,

your gcc version is ancient (gcc (GCC) 3.2.3 20030502 (Red Hat Linux
3.2.3-54)) and as far as I can recall never really produced good output on
an opteron in 64 bit mode. Since you got brand new hardware it might be
time  to upgrade your OS. If you are stuck with that particular version of
RedHat you might want to try building your own compiler, i.e. I currently
use gcc 3.4.5 on Opterons in 64 bit mode.
