Sorry, I misread your bug report.  I don't know about any
workaround alignment test problem.

I don't plan to work on this platform, but if somebody can
suggest safe and clean patch for 4.1.x, I will put them on the
web page.

(The development souces have a rewritten configure system that
copes better with disparate assembly syntax.  It will become
available with G<P 4.2, out sometimes within a not too distant
future.)
